The Need to be Lonely

"Companion; Loneliness" - Contemporary Painting by Val Jean

A solitary moment in the dark.
When there are no whispers surrounding.
There are no eyes prying.
A moment to be invisible.
Can give us a glimpse of our beguiled selves.

The importance of solitude is always undermined.
None care to temper it.
None try to examine it.
An insight into our very souls it may give us.
Without the need to forage, we may see within our own cases.

The masks that we all wear.
The masks of shame, those of pride.
The masks of love or lust, they all disguise.
We may not realize our true features hidden.
We need our time to brood, to discover the callouses beneath the mitten.

But ponder not too long, o reader.
As I have, in search of my lost desires.
I have lost too much and gained little wisdom from this.
Tarry not in the dark senses of your befuddled mind like I have.
For you will then be stuck until eternity instead of being brave.

I will linger on until I have found my gem.
In the search of knowledge, I may have lost much.
But this is my way now, I know of nothing further.
My endless quest shall remain such forever.
With my eyes open, I know who I am, what I want, and I shall search forever.

Yes, solitude is essential for having conversations with oneself. I am so in love with solitude that sometimes I find it even when I am surrounded by a lot of people. I know it's bad, but I can't help it; and I know it's sad, but I can't deny it. Great post, as usual. :D

@Sayak :
Thanks man. :)
And don't think of of it as something sad. Think of it as being thoughtful! :D

@Priya : Thank you. :)

Indeed. It is only then that one can look at themselves from any and every perspective.

I wonder how come I never commented on this.

The primary need to be alone is the need itself, to feel comfortably numb in our shell that encases the person we have to tolerate all life long.

I loved reading this!

@Enchanta : No, I don't believe we ever have to tolerate ourselves if we think of what we are inside. We are encumbered by our exterior selves, no doubt.
The shell or the way I see it, another person inside who may emerge when we want him to do so, is a peaceful place to be.
